Cordless power tools are now sold across construction, maintenance, furniture, automotive, installation, and DIY channels. For an international buyer, the key decision is not simply whether a drill or grinder looks modern. Battery platform, motor design, torque or speed, charger compatibility, protection functions, documentation, and after-sales support determine whether the tool can be sold and used reliably. This guide helps distributors and project buyers compare cordless drills, impact drivers, angle grinders, rotary hammers, saws, batteries, and accessories before placing an order.

1. Start With the Application, Not the Tool Photograph

A cordless drill for furniture assembly is not specified in the same way as a rotary hammer for construction. Define the material, hole size, duty cycle, operating time, environment, and user profile before comparing suppliers.

For drilling and screwdriving, buyers should review voltage platform, no-load speed, torque range, chuck type, clutch positions, impact function, LED, and gearbox. For an angle grinder, define disc diameter, rated speed, spindle size, restart protection, guard design, switch type, and thermal protection. For an impact wrench, torque range, square drive, speed, fastening application, and battery capacity are central.

A clear application brief prevents suppliers from quoting different tools under similar “20V” or “brushless” language.

2. Brushless Motors, Batteries, and Runtime

Brushless motors can reduce brush wear and may support better efficiency and service life, but the label alone does not guarantee performance. Ask about motor output, controller protection, thermal management, no-load speed, load behavior, and the test conditions used for the quoted specifications.

Battery capacity is usually expressed in ampere-hours, but runtime depends on the tool, load, battery chemistry, temperature, and control strategy. Request the battery cell configuration, protection board, balancing function, charging temperature range, and cycle or capacity test method. A higher Ah rating adds weight and may not be ideal for every application.

Battery compatibility is a commercial issue as well as a technical one. If several tools use the same platform, confirm mechanical interface, voltage, communication contacts, charger output, and protection logic. Do not assume that two packs with the same printed voltage are interchangeable.

3. Safety, Compliance, and Documentation

Cordless tools combine mechanical hazards, electrical components, chargers, and lithium battery transport requirements. The quotation should clearly identify the tool, battery, charger, plug, manuals, warning labels, and included accessories.

Ask for the conformity documents and test evidence relevant to the target market. The exact requirement depends on the country, product category, voltage, wireless function if present, charger design, and battery shipment route. Avoid placing a certification logo on retail packaging until the product and factory scope have been checked.

Important safety functions may include overload protection, over-temperature protection, over-discharge protection, soft start, electronic brake, restart protection, spindle lock, guard, and lock-off switch. These functions should be confirmed in the sample and, where applicable, in the test report.

4. OEM and Product-Line Planning

OEM power tools require a coordinated product platform rather than a logo applied to one tool. Decide whether you need a single tool, a family of compatible tools, a battery ecosystem, or a complete retail program.

Confirm tool colour, housing texture, logo position, nameplate, battery label, charger plug, manual language, carton artwork, accessory list, barcode, warranty card, and spare-parts policy. Approve the first sample and first printed package separately. A correct tool with the wrong charger or language can still create a market problem.

For online and retail sales, define the claims that may appear in product descriptions. “Brushless,” “20V,” “high torque,” and “professional” should be supported by a consistent specification and test method.

5. Supplier Verification and Testing

A power-tool supplier should be able to explain motor assembly, controller testing, battery assembly, charger testing, final run testing, and incoming inspection. Ask for sample reports and a clear explanation of rated power, torque, speed, runtime, charging time, and noise or vibration measurements if those claims are used.

Test the sample under a repeatable load rather than relying only on no-load figures. Check trigger control, clutch repeatability, chuck runout, gearbox noise, vibration, battery locking, charger temperature, protection functions, and accessory fit.

Before mass production, agree on a quality plan covering appearance, dimensions, electrical safety, function, battery capacity, charger output, labels, packaging, and sampling level. Keep an approved golden sample for future batches.

6. MOQ, Warranty, and Supply-Chain Cost

The real cost includes the tool, battery, charger, accessories, packaging, testing, mould amortization, spare parts, freight, and warranty handling. Ask whether the quotation includes one battery or two, what charger plug is included, and whether replacement batteries can be ordered later.

MOQ may be low for standard tools but higher for custom housings, colours, battery packs, packaging, or a dedicated mould. Request sample, trial-order, and volume pricing separately. Clarify warranty period, failure definition, evidence required for a claim, replacement process, and spare-parts availability.

For lithium battery shipments, packaging, labelling, and transport documents should be prepared according to the destination route and carrier requirements.
